IC2AR Poster Award presented to Johannes Kast

Johannes Kast, a graduate student in the department of pharmaceutics, won the Excellent Poster Presentation Award at the Second International Caparica Conference in Antibiotic Resistance, or IC2AR. Held in Portugal, the meeting brings together researchers involved in antibiotic resistance prevention and control. Kast presented a poster related to research involving the spaceflight environment and its impact on the efficacy of amoxicillin. Astronauts use antibiotics during spaceflight missions to treat infections, and Kast found that spaceflight could impair the efficacy of amoxicillin when used to treat infections of E.coli and other bacteria.
