UF College of Pharmacy claims 3 of the 4 Trainee Abstract Poster Awards

The University of Florida College of Pharmacy nearly completed a clean sweep of the Trainee Abstract Poster Awards presented at the 2017 Pharmacogenomics Research Network-American Society of Human Genetics, or ASHG, Poster Session and Reception Oct. 19. The event was held in conjunction with the ASHG Annual Meeting in Orlando. Nearly 40 trainees participated in the poster session, and UF trainees claimed three of the four awards given to the top research abstracts. Those UF trainees honored for their cutting-edge pharmacogenomics research included:

  • Leanne Dumeny, M.S.M., an M.D./Ph.D. student in the department of pharmacotherapy and translational research, for her research presentation titled, “β1‐adrenoceptor polymorphisms associated with post‐operative arrhythmias in children after congenital cardiac surgery”
  • Mohamed H. Shahin, Ph.D., a postdoctoral associate in the department of pharmacotherapy and translational research, for his research presentation titled, “A Genome-Wide Association Study Identifies Novel Genetic Signatures Associated with Thiazide Diuretics Adverse Metabolic Events”
  • Guang Yang, a graduate student in the department of pharmacotherapy and translational research, for his research presentation titled, “SIRT1 Gene Associated with Bisphosphonate-Induced Osteonecrosis of the Jaw: An Exome-Wide Association Analysis”
